Privacy Policy for BiblioGenius

Last updated: January 2026

BiblioGenius ("we", "our", "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we use it.

Camera Permission

Our application requires access to your device's camera to scan ISBN barcodes on books. This processing happens locally on your device or is sent to our server solely to identify the book. We do not store or share photos taken with the camera.

Microphone Permission

The microphone serves one feature: dictating a reading note or a quote instead of typing it. A microphone button appears in note fields. The permission is declared in the app manifest, but it is only requested the first time you use that button, so anyone who never dictates is never asked.

We record no audio and keep none. Only the recognized text is inserted into the note field. Turning speech into text is done by the operating system: the app uses the speech recognition the device provides. That processing therefore depends on your device and its settings, and it is outside the app's hands. This is why dictation can be switched off: turning it off in the settings removes the microphone button. It is on by default, except on the bookseller profile.

Independent Audit

Exodus Privacy analyses the trackers and permissions of Android apps. Its report on BiblioGenius is public: Exodus Privacy report.

Data Collection

We collect basic information about your book library to provide the service. This includes book titles, authors, and ISBNs.
