My wishlist
A book you want to read but do not own belongs in BiblioGenius: put it on your wishlist. It stays in your library, marked as wanted, and your network can then help you find it.
Putting a book on the wishlist
Add the book like any other, by scanning, searching or by hand, then give it the "Wishlist" status (the heart). You can also do it from a ready-made list at import time.
A wanted book does not count as owned: it does not show up as available to your contacts, and the CSV export marks it "Wanted".
Seeing who owns a book you are after
On the details page of a wanted book, an "Available from" card appears when a library in your network owns it. You can send a borrow request straight from that card.
The card stays invisible while there is no match: these encounters are rare, they depend on the overlap between your libraries, not on a flaw in the app.
Knowing who is after your books
On the details page of a book you own, a "Wanted by" card lists the libraries whose wishlist contains that title, with a "Lend" button to offer the loan in one gesture.
Lending stays a free, one-sided gesture: nobody is told that you saw their search, and nothing commits you. If you happen to be after a book that person owns, a discreet note tells you so, without turning the exchange into an obligation.
Finding the books you do not own
By default, your library shows what you have at hand: your books, and the ones you lent out. Wishlist books sit elsewhere without being lost.
The library filter menu carries an "Ownership" section, independent from reading status:
- My library, the default view;
- Not owned, your wishes and the books you read without owning;
- Everything, no distinction.
Because the two axes are separate, combinations become expressible: books you read but do not own, or books in progress whatever their ownership.
Search, on the other hand, searches everywhere. Whatever filter is on, a wished title comes up, and the result carries its ownership mark. There is no longer a case where the app offers a book in the dropdown and then announces "No books found" in the grid.
Recognizing a book you do not own
A book you do not have keeps its cover, in muted colors, with a small "Not owned" badge. It is the same marker everywhere: in the grid, on a series frieze, in a collection.
A wished book carries both: that muting, and its heart. It stays recognizable at a glance among the other books you do not own.
Notifications
When a book on your wishlist becomes available in your network, a notification tells you. On a ready-made list import the notification is grouped: "3 books from 'Booker Prize' available in your network".
Privacy
Matches only ever cover books that are actually shared. A book marked private never shows up, neither in "Available from" nor in "Wanted by".
